4.1.2.2 Introducing the Sustainable Innovation Accelerator

Building on its long-standing culture of innovation and in line with its ambitions, L’Oréal has launched its sustainable innovation accelerator, dubbed "L'AcceleratOR". The five-year, €100 million programme is designed to boost the Company’s capacity to develop and scale sustainable solutions, in line with the themes identified in the double materiality assessment.

In strategic partnership with the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), our accelerator aims to scout, identify, pilot and scale breakthrough technologies addressing our critical challenges and needs. As part of this accelerator, L’Oréal actively seeks out and supports startups, SMEs and established innovative companies with ready-to-pilot solutions in key areas such as low carbon solutions, alternative ingredients, eliminating fossil plastic use and plastic waste, low-impact processes, water resilience, nature-based solutions and inclusive business models.

The launch of the accelerator involved a call for projects, followed by the review of some 1,000 applications from 101 countries, and the selection of the first 13 start-ups and innovative companies to join L'AcceleratOR. From wood-based packaging to waste-derived ingredients, the 13 companies selected stand out for their high potential impact in terms of new-generation packaging, naturally-sourced ingredients, solutions promoting greater circularity and predictive intelligence tools. They will benefit from an intensive support phase led by the CISL innovation team, with particular emphasis on the preparation and deployment of pilot projects.
