Innovation at the heart of the business model: the beauty of longevity, a new scientific and strategic frontier

L'Oréal has made beauty a fundamental pillar of longevity, recognising the crucial importance of healthy skin for a longer, healthier life. Drawing on cutting-edge scientific breakthroughs that address the root causes of ageing rather than simply correcting its visible signs, L'Oréal’s Longevity Integrative Science™ offers consumers access to corrective and now preventive care.

This vision marks a scientific and social paradigm shift, in which beauty and longevity are intimately linked. By going beyond chronological age to decode the skin's invisible mechanisms, L'Oréal enables everyone to design their own beauty journey: anticipating, proactively addressing the causes of skin ageing, or embracing the marks of time at every stage of life. The beauty industry plays a major role in “healthy ageing”, and L'Oréal is a forerunner in this field.

The L'Oréal Longevity Integrative Science™ approach is based on three major pillars:

1. Understanding the root causes of skin ageing

Based on skin ageing markers, L'Oréal's Longevity Integrative Science™ helps to understand and provide specific answers to the root causes of skin ageing before they become visible, by optimising cell structure, metabolism and communication. After 15 years of advanced research and over 40 publications, L’Oréal has created the “Wheel of Longevity for Beauty” and the unique Longevity AI Cloud™ technology. This platform, based on computational biology, analyses over 260 biomarkers to precisely and exhaustively map the causes of skin and hair ageing - an industry first.

2. Development of cutting-edge integrated solutions

Solutions include advanced diagnostics and high-performance products:

  • Advanced diagnostic solutions: Cell BioPrint, developed with NanoEntek, measures skin biomarkers in less than five minutes. The TruDiagnostic partnership explores the link between beauty and epigenetics.
  • New active ingredients: in 2024, L'Oréal invested in Swiss biotech Timeline (via BOLD), which has developed Mitopure®, a mitochondrial rejuvenation molecule. A partnership with Veminsyn aims to develop longevity bio-actives using biotechnology.
  • Consumer product innovation: Lancôme Absolue Longevity Soft Cream contains Absolue PDRN™ (protected by seven patents). Vichy Laboratoires Neovadiol Longevity Revolumising Cream incorporates Longevisia technology to reset the key markers of skin ageing.

3. An Open Innovation ecosystem

L'Oréal's longevity ecosystem combines cutting-edge internal research with an external network of leading partners in longevity science (Senisca, Dr. Andrea Maier, Professor Andor Pivarcsi, Professor Benjamin Loos, Professor Rob Knight, Dr. David Luu), accelerating knowledge acquisition and the development of predictive diagnostics.
